Senior Scientist Post-Doc (all genders welcome)

 

Level of employment: 100 % (40 hours/week; based on 50 % and an agreed increase of 50 %)

Minimum salary: € 66,532.20 per annum (gross); classification according to collective agreement: Uni-KV: B1 lit. b

Limited to: the duration of the position holder's leave (presumably until February 28th, 2029)

Area of responsibility

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Independent research and further development of the candidate's scientific qualification in the field of American literature and culture with the option of working towards completing a postdoctoral thesis (habilitation)
  • Independent undergraduate and graduate teaching in the field of American literature and culture; examination activities; supervision of BA and MA theses
  • International publications and presentations
  • Participation in department administration, teaching and research administration, and in university committees
  • Participation in conference organization

Requirements

Required qualification

  • PhD degree at a national or international university with a research focus on American literatures, preferably U.S. American literature of the (long) 19th century
  • Habilitation research project in the field of American literature and culture
  • Relevant scholarly publications and conference presentations
  • Teaching experience at the university level and didactic competence
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English
  • Pertinent international experience (e.g. academic experience, other forms of education or training)

Desired skills

Additional desired qualifications

  • Research interest in Transcultural and Postcolonial Studies, Critical Race/Ethnicity Studies, and/or the Environmental Humanities
  • Organizational and social competence; ability to cooperate in a team
  • Experience in academic self-administration, university committees or similar
  • Experience in organizing workshops, conferences, and symposia

German language skills are not a formal prerequisite, but proficiency (C1) is expected within two years.

The employment contract is concluded with an entry-level salary of € 4,752.30 gross per month for the full-time position (14 times per year; crediting of job-specific previous experience in accordance with the collective agreement is possible).
